This year marks the 50th anniversary of San Francisco Pride β€” one of the largest displays of LGBTQ solidarity in the country (and the world). Every year, these early-summer festivities serve as a place for communal connection and radical acceptance all while reminding us how far we’ve come and the plights left to face (violence against queer-identifying cohorts, specifically black trans women; the continuation of gay conversion therapy; and inequalities in health care, among other struggles).

But in the midst of a global health crisis, the iconic SF Pride Parade, much like the leather-clad and sex-positive Folsom Street Fair, is canceled, and the festivities have shifted to an entirely virtual happening. In lieu of those in-person frivolities, San Francisco Pride 2020’s roster of lively online events and performances for June 27–28 is one for the history books. Big Freedia, the lauded Queen of Bounce and LGBTQ trailblazer herself, is set to headline this year’s digital celebration come Saturday.
